I keep reading the stories at the local news website, my mom keeps emailing me, and overall? This is turning out to be worse than the legendary 1993/1994 ice/snow/wind storm which shut the Seattle area down for almost five days. Basically, the strongest windstorm in the past decade blew through Seattle a few days ago and now, a lot of people are without power. The thing is that it wasn't very cold when it went out in '93, but it apparently is freezing in Washington. Everyone's moving in temporarily with family members who have power or generators; my parents elected to stay overnight at the office because our house is so cold, and they bundled my grandmother to my uncle's house so she could get some sleep. It's day number five and they're still without power.
It kind of makes me wistful! I remember those four days back in '93 and how fun it was to cook on the grill and live by candlelight... nowadays, I'd be writhing on the floor with the lack of internet, but back then? Easy peasy for us kids! Go out to play in the snow, come in to play board games, go to the mall... ah, the good old days. Methinks I am wearing my first set of rose-colored glasses!
This makes me want to go HOME. To Seattle. And I'm due to leave for Thailand this Saturday.
-_-
I may not celebrate Christmas traditionally, but gosh darn it, I miss my family!
