Fullmetal Alchemist OI!
Feb. 11th, 2011 04:02 pmI've been dropping in and out of FMA for years now, catching up here, reading a bit there, and over the past month, I've finally read all twenty-seven volumes (OMG IT ENDED).
I'd forgotten just how much I loved this series. It's an amazing read if you read it from start to finish with no pause; you realize just how tight and well-arced the story is and how the characters fit in with each twist and turn. I can't spoil it, but I have to say that I was quite pleased with the ending and though I wouldn't have minded a bit more of an epilogue (it seemed rather rushed to me...), overall, this one of those perfect manga series. Doable length, no-thousand-character-lists, no volume-long battles (well, kind of). It's what I'd label an 'almost perfect manga'. It joins Fruits Basket, One Piece and Monster for me and it's going to stay on my bookshelves, methinks.
And also.
HOW DID I NOT LOVE RIZA AND ROY BEFORE THIS?
The story and characters make me giddy. Very giddy. Am a little late joining the party, alas.
Also. Was it me, or did everyone get rounder as the series progressed? The faces, the muscles, everything...

Dec. 10th, 2008 09:29 pmI only just realized, due to this flash about Chapter 427 that Team Gai REALLY HAVEN'T SHOWN UP SINCE DECEMBER 2005.
Wow.
And I complained about the lack of Sakura. Obviously, I kinda have it pretty good in comparison.

Naruto and Ending?
Dec. 10th, 2008 05:10 pmThis series is alternately funny and horrible. I've finally reread the entire Shippuden arc: Naruto, Part II. And in rereading Chapter 402 where in...
( spoilers for up to Ch. 427 )
Yeah. I hope a lot.
And for all I know, chapter 428 could negate all this.
*crosses fingers*
Hope not.

More Naruto
Dec. 7th, 2008 10:15 pmAlright, I'm calmer, and speaking with my brother, who follows the manga more regularly than me, he scoffs at the idea of [spoiler] in Naruto.
Thinking about it rationally, I wonder.
( spoilers for Naruto up to 427 )
I AM BEING TOTALLY PATHETIC ABOUT A FICTIONAL CHARACTER.
THIS IS NOT A SURPRISE.

Though I started reading this literally when it started, and I've had various levels of excitement over the years (Arashi and Sorata! Subara and Seishirou! OMFG ASHURA AND YASHA!), I just read V.24 and I AM SO IN LOVE WITH with this series again.
ESPECIALLY SYAORAN. I LOVE YOU, YOU CUTE WEIRDO.
And Fai and Kurogane remind me the good old days of CLAMP!sized Subtext Frustration. Though, no, not quite as bad as X.

Nov. 4th, 2008 08:18 amIn sending my ballot last week, I feel like today is just going to be one long day of waiting. And waiting. And waiting some more.
And I've also realized that I've never, ever voted in a physical place. It's always been via absentee. Granted, I was out of the country for the last three years, but I voted absentee in all the elections post-turning-18 and pre-Japan.
You know, this could be the basis of a manga series; popular, young upstart coming out of nowhere to upset the Old Guard. Every other chapter is a triumph over tradition and stodginess, the states are poised on the brink of massive change, something amazing would happen in TV, the whole audience would just happen to be watching, people would get all fired up and righteous, maybe a few personal stories would play out in the background, all threading back to this one day where, naturally, after a long and arduous journey filled with self-revelation and hardship endured, the vote comes in! He wins!
SERIOUSLY. CAN ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS?

Oh, Rurouni Kenshin.
Nov. 4th, 2008 01:10 am*cries* I'd forgotten how difficult it had been to read the manga series, have it end where it ended, and then to watch the Reflections OAV right after.
This was and still is one of my favorite series of all time. It was such a huge part for me when I was a teen and it's been so long since I've reread it and, and, and, and!
Oh, dammit. I'm just a pile of sobbing crap right now.
KENSHIN, KAORU, I LOVE YOU.
(I remember tearing up whenever I saw cherry blossoms for several years after. HOW PATHETIC IS THAT?)
And Kenji, Kenji.
... I'm thinking this is going to happen periodically for the rest of my life. Hoo boy.

Oct. 22nd, 2008 11:04 amDude, I really wish I understood the appeal of High School Musical.
The new season of Smallville is wonderful; Lois and Clark moments abound! I've been waiting since, well, season four for this to start and get some steam going. I know, essentially, the Clark and Lana relationship had to resolve first, but it took so very, very long.
House is not very interesting this season, thus far.
I keep missing Bones.
I finally watched the second X-Files movie and it... was... odd.
I need to find a new anime-viewing-partner since I left all mine back in Japan. *weeps*
Is it weird that I don't like the Twilight books, but I can't wait for the movie to come out? I totally want to be in the theatre for that and see how they do 'sparkly vampires' and whether a screen!Edward would tick me off quite so much.
The Chaos;head anime is strangely hilarious. Creepy!Otaku for the win!
I just read Yotsuba and seriously, one of the funniest manga I've read of late. No relationship drama! No angst drama! No four-panel comedy sketches! Just lots of wackiness, and I am so into it right now.
I'm finally catching up with Tsubasa and XXXholic.
Catching up with Inuyasha is something I'm debating right now; can I really go through fifty+ volumes of Inuyasha/Kagome angst again?
Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece are somewhere on that list.
I bought five new yaoi manga volumes yesterday, and I haven't touched them yet. I was perusing the shelves and there sure are a lot of new ones. As in, there are ones I never thought would get translated and published in the US.
I'm really boring today.
That is all.

May. 21st, 2007 12:33 pmNatsuki Takaya set to debut new manga series on June 5 in hanatoyume.
I'm going to pick up the first issue and check it out; after Fruits Basket, the question is going to be... is she going to top the extravaganza that brought us Akito? Her previous series tended to be wildly different from each other, but with FB still hanging over our heads, it's going to be weird for me to look at a character and not think of Akito. But I have hopes for this, because Takaya-sensei is fantabulous and she's probably going to spin out another series that destroys my soul. Again. XD

Master Yaoi Manga List
Mar. 23rd, 2007 01:05 pmNews
A LOT of the dates for publishing have been changed; most have been pushed way in the future, if not reverted back to the OH NOES of the publishing industry… T. B. A. 0_0
Most of the books that are TBA or where dates have been changed belong to DramaQueen. It might be an aftereffect of the change of their website. Their website is somewhat out of date at the moment, but it should clear up soon?
And HOLY MOLY! Lots of yaoi manga! Just the stuff that’s been added to this master list since I last updated is staggering. I nearly threw myself at amazon.co.jp to b go buy some of my favorites!. Especially Lovely Sick which I’ve raved about before and I shall rave again. Beautifully drawn, tragic story, warm fuzzy feelings abound. And just enough bondage to keep it spicy. XD Love it to pieces!
BeBeatiful seems to be back on its feet! Yay!
Here’s to hoping for more licenses! And more artists! The selection is still very sliim. This is barely a fraction of a percent of what’s actually available in Japan. A lot of my favorite mangaka aren’t even being represented, which makes me a sad puppy. I’ve noticed the trend in more explicit manga and less plot-based or character-driven manga. =( Not necessarily bad, but some of my absolute favorites are in the latter categories. Mou~
DISCLAIMER: Unreleased manga dates are rough or predicted. I take no responsibility if releases are abruptly changed. =P Also, if there are any broken or misdirected links, yaoi-related news that I might have missed, information that may be wrong, please tell me!
( Yaoi manga, novels, artbooks, and games currently available or lined up to be released )
Update of this list.

Oct. 9th, 2006 11:05 pmShe was asking for it, an article about certain dangers of shoujo. Snagged from
autophanous
( worrisome female attributes in shoujo manga? SURELY YOU JEST. )
Please think, and talk, about what you're reading. Manga is fun, but don't let it hurt you.
Is it bad that I burst into laughter at this and then found myself being unable to take it seriously anymore?
Feel free to disagree with me, by the way. I fully admit that these issues are a sensitive and hotly debated topic for me.

Master Yaoi Manga List
Sep. 11th, 2006 10:48 amNews
Central Park Media has gone bankrupt, and so has its yaoi-manga division, Be Beautiful. It seems like they're reorganizing but I would think that their licensed series such as Kizuna and Embracing Love would be put on hold until they're right-side up again.
Yaoi Con is at it again! October 20-22 in San Francisco! I was at the 2004 convention and it was quite the blast though expensive on my pocket. ;) Still, all that yaoi manga? Delish! And Kawai Toko is going to be there - I'm totally beating my head on the table right now because I absolutely love her! She's one of my favorite mangaka, not only because I’m partial to her artwork, but her stories are abso-fucking-lutely amazing too. XD

May. 12th, 2006 03:45 pmI taught my adorable first years for the first time today at my base school and they were so cute! They were also very excited I was into Harry Potter, Bleach, Naruto, and Fruits Basket. ;) I was careful to not mention certain other series I like since I'm sure it'll confuse their little heads off but that's okay. In a year, I'm sure I can tell them that I'm fond of Koori and Mushishi and ooh, look at the new yaoi volume by Yamada Yuki whom I absolutely adore. I sure hope some of her manga get translated.
So anyways, one of them asked me who my favorite character in Fruits Basket was and I answered (but of course) that Akito was and they all gasped... but in a good way! They started saying 'onna', 'onna', 'onna', which means women and when I nodded, they looked very pleased. They were also equally enthusiastic when I said I liked Rin and Tohru. The same with Sakura and Rukia. Huh. It was a very different reaction from the ones you might find on a random message board.
I have about a million and one things to send out. Fret not. I will get it done. Eventually.

Biblos Goes Bankrupt
Apr. 9th, 2006 03:09 amSome of you might have already heard of this, but Biblos has abruptly announced their bankruptcy
They're ceasing all operations, effective immediately so any series currently going through this particular publisher is no longer going to be published. Which means if there's a series someone is following... they're tough out of luck. One interesting thing is that Biblos also releases the monthly BeBoy magazine, which is one of the most well-known yaoi monthlies. What's interesting about it is that they announced it so suddenly and are essentially pulling up their oars from under the artist's feet.
... I wonder how this will affect the artists currently represented by Biblos?

Mar. 30th, 2006 02:50 pmTaiwan was so much fun that I almost regret being back to the daily mechanics of reality. Almost.
But then not because the next chapter of Furuba is coming out in a few days! Woot!
I picked up more manga than I planned, but I don't regret it for a moment because whee, I have so much to read now. I got several new shoujo series and the continuation of some shonen series. I also managed to find new volumes of yaoi manga, all gorgeous and tight asses. Wow. I never thought I'd say that. ;) But truly, I found a couple new artists I really like, and Moon Bleu (the company that licenses some of the best of the best in yaoi manga in Taiwan) has increased their collection by quite a bit. It was gorgeous and I had a moment of nirvana, I swear.
Food? Well. Like Korea, I ate my way through Taiwan in what would probably be a startling fashion to anyone but those who know me.
But yeah. The biggest thing? Manga. Manga. And more manga. I also picked up the first volume of the Kyou Kara Maoh novels and will start reading soon.
Mm. Yaoi...

Nov. 15th, 2005 08:32 pmIt's probably my hormones, but article about "Brokeback Mountain" made me tear up, just a little.
=)
A little down, but in general? Pretty good. It's the monthly hormonal injection, I say, and it makes me a little melancholy. And I make it worse by reading all my favorite fics and manga stories. Some of them are angst-jerkers and I love it. *whistles*

Furuba 117
Oct. 20th, 2005 11:34 pmFirst off, I just about cried my head dry after reading 117 of the latest chapter of Furuba.
( hurting here with Furuba 117 )
Incoherence over this brilliant chapter.
Now me go off to cry.

Yaoi manga fans, get ready to cheer!
Minase Masara and Takanaga Hinako are scheduled to debut in the US!
Minase Masara penned and drew one of my favourite single-volume stories of all time, "Empty Heart". It's US title is apparently going to be "Lies and Kisses", but who cares? It's coming, it's coming, and yes, it's coming. (no pun intended. really) And Takanaga Hinako has some of the best facial expressions in my opinion. Her characters are so sweet and airy and my favourite series by her is "Little Butterfly". But "Challengers" is also excellent.
