Now that my heart's had a night of restless sleep and I can see the episode without going into massive flailing of arm and limb...
I said it before and I say it again. I LOVE DONNA. I loved her in The Runaway Bride because it was the perfect adventure post-Doomsday. The whole special was nominally about Donna and Huon particles and icky spiders (arachnaphobia coming into play for me) but it was also a look at the Doctor post-Rose. It's not pretty, as is emphasized to us several times by Donna and the awesome flashback at the wedding reception, and of course, what he did to the spider eggs.
The entire first half of this episode was all sorts of win. The scene where the pantomime their conversation? That alone is worth about ten thousand points of my adoration. I kept repeating it as I tried to figure out what she said at the end, with all those hand gestures. And them not noticing Foster until she's basically tapping her foot? CLASSIC DOCTOR AND COMPANION.
And the 'mate' conversation? I almost died in laughter because WHO DIDN'T LAUGH at the two of them talking about 'mating' and 'mates'? It was so perfect and if this is any indication of what their partnership is like? I'm going to LOVE this season.
AND I CANNOT END ANY POST ABOUT THIS EPISODE WITHOUT MENTIONING ROSE BECAUSE AUGH.
ROSE.
DOOMSDAY MUSIC.
I still can't believe how absolutely floored I was when I saw the woman turn around? I haven't been that surprised by something in an episode of anything since... well, since forever. Though I suppose Claymore's sudden beheading of Theresa is a close call.
A one, two, three punch to the gut and it brings up a million and one questions.
Like, AM I GOING TO GO MAD BEFORE THE END OF SERIES 4??
