Doctor Who, 4x08 and 4x09

Finally got around to watching these two episodes. Haha, it was in my school library, of all places. Felt it was a bit appropriate, considering.
Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers. Hardly care though, next week is EPISODE 11 AND WE KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN THEN, DON'T WE?
Sometimes, just sometimes, I want to toss the Doctor out so Donna can find Rose and kidnap Martha and the three of them could go on bonny adventures all on their own. Dude.
Now I really want an all-girls adventure. Not because they're girls, not because I think girls are better. I just think these three girls are awesome and they'd give me some truly great adventures to watch. *weeps* OMG, just the idea of this funny sci-fi show with just Rose, Donna, and Martha makes me grin.
... whatever. That's not going to happen anytime soon.
(but seriously, I want a scifi show with leading female characters, only a couple male (or really, none at all) where it's not all about angst (Joss Whedon's new series, Dollhouse looks vaguely interesting, but the ANGST. WHY ALL THE ANGST?) and oh, just give me something interesting! Okay, done complaining)
SO!
- First thing about this episode is that the robot courtesy node/librarian reminded me very strongly of the clockwork monsters in The Girl in the Firplace. It even had a similar 'whirring' sound. Though certainly not the same intentions!
- The edited message (by decency censors, ha!) was kind of funny actually. You know, if it wasn't for the sloshy part of the message.
- The Doctor is really useless sometimes.
- (vibrate the molecules to separate the bindings... oh, that made me a sad for a moment. It reminded me of Nine and his 'resonating concrete'. That was in a Moffat episode too.)
- Random: I like Donna's outfit. Something I'd wear, actually.
- "Of course we're safe, it's a little shop." 0_0 New Earth reference. And the S1/S2 references continue.
- Donna's reaction to the Doctor's hands? I'd have done that too. I hate people's hands on my waist or any part of the torso.
- "Oh, I'm pretty boy!"
- The girl the others consider dumb? I bet she's going to save them all; Donna's facetwitch at their vague superiority was great.
- River Song... wow, I like her. And this is kinda Time Traveler's Wifeish, isn't it?
- That one hundred years thing... in Gridlock from S3, New New York was sealed automatically for a hundred years. Wow. That's another previous season mention.
- Okay, I was wrong about the pretty girl.
- Ha, spoilers. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on that book.
- For some reason, that packed lunch reminded me of what Nine once said about 'time'. That it was fluid and ever-changing.
- Hm, she knows Donna. Was that a... grimace? What, what was that? Jeez. Shoot. PLEASE NO. I love Donna, I don't want her gone. -_- But I know she's only on for one season. JFIEJFIEWO:JFO:JELI I hate knowing the future.
- So they're like an infestation of particularly virulent, everything-eating, and... flying? rats?
- *frowns*
- Moffat tends to write his Doctors as rather abrasive. With Nine, it worked. With Ten, not so well. To shut Donna up? That doesn't sound like the current Doctor, not at all. Oh. Man. I just figured something out about my love/hate for Moffat's. I love three out of four of his episodes, but he was hardly in Blink. There wasn't really any time to do anything to his character. Ahhhhh. So really, it's two out of three that I like. And the one that I disliked. Interesting.
- Sonic screwdriver part duex!
- ... yeah. This really bothers me. What he did to Donna there. That is just... UGH. GOSH DARN IT. I had totally thought I'd have a problem with River Song since she's the Doctor's other One True Love. (how many does he have anyways?) But she's awesome. It's the Doctor (or rather, Moffat's portrayal of him) who bothers me.
- Emergency Programme One. Oh wow. My lip just trembled for a second. NINE. OH I WISH YOU WERE HERE.
- DONNA. NOOOOOOOOOO. Jeez, if this is some sort of plot device to remove her for the rest of the episode and part of the next, I swear...
- Okay, good! She's still here.
- 0_0 I read a fic that was almost exactly like this, only with Rose. Being told that everything was a dream/delusion/etc.
- So... Doctor Moon. One second he's saying that the girl is only person who can save the people in the library. And next, he's tricking Donna.
- "One day I'm going to be someone you trust completely." I had a dream, once, that Rose said the same thing. Oh, dear. My Rose-bias is starting to come out.
- I'm so curious about what she said; I'm sure it'll be revealed later on. Actually, that music, though.
- AH, so I was right about the pretty girl, Evangelista.
- The moment the thing said forest, it was pretty obvious where the spores were from.
- HA. World War Three reference! About standing near a door (elevator doors!). Oh, Nine.
- Whoa, I admit, that was freaky! That face, I was totally expecting a skull, that is way worse.
- The little girl, it's like she's watching a horror movie. So, we're watching Doctor Who, that's about a girl watching the Doctor. Nice.
- 'My Doctor'. That reminds me of Harriet Jones. Harriet Jones and 'her Doctor'. Who I always thought and probably always will, think of as Rose's Doctor.
- Poor Donna, even though it was all fake, she really did love those kids.
- Luxem. Dude.
- WHOA WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? This is the Time Traveler's Wife, only...
- Random: Handcuffs. Spoilers.
- Oh. His real name.
- "I'm alright." Oh, The Girl in the Fireplace.
- OH NO. She just missed him. Oh.
- The music playing... dude, don't play that music. I know that's the Doctor's music, but it never reminds me of him, it reminds me of her.
- So she's saved. That's a good ending.
Overall, I liked this two-parter. The only thing I was disappointed by was the fact that I wasn't actually scared by it, which is a bit odd. I'm a wimp; I scare so easily, I love being scared, etc.etc. And The Empty Child and Blink totally freaked me out, so I was a teeny-bit expectant about that aspect. Otherwise...
I was a bit put out by the way Donna was portrayed in this episode. Something was off about it, though I can't quite put my finger on what exactly is off about it. Hm.
I liked River, I actually liked her a lot. It was very Time Traveler's Wife for me, and I adore that book. I've read several fics that are almost exactly like this, and no matter when, I always get a weepy over the very idea of it. That she dies the very first time he meets her, but for her, she doesn't die until months, perhaps years after.
When she said 'spoilers' while strapping herself into that chair, I actually started crying. Because it was so sad. That bit about how the last time she'd seen him, he'd taken her to go see something beautiful and fantastic and she told him how her Doctor wept and he wouldn't tell her why. I cried so, so hard over that. That he knew the way she'd die his whole life and she'd never be able to say goodbye to her Doctor.
;_; This kind of stuff gets to me sooooo much.
Gosh. It's probably unlikely, but... I kind of hope we'll see River Song again. Someday.
... I miss Rose.
