It's like that giddy feeling I got when I heard about the The First Kill Project by Xandria. I'm like an obsessee of giddy feelings. That roiling in the stomach, the burst of cheer in your throat. It's a drug, I say.

You so need to read Monstrous Regiment. It's the most recent in the Discworld series, almost a complete standalone, and is about women in the military. It's only out in hardback right now, but any decent library should have it. Seriously, it's exactly the kind of thing I think you'd like, and your prof might be willing to give you credit for reading it.
