Fruits Basket! More Akito lurve!

While I'm a whore for Akito/Shigure, I can't help but just twitch over a Kureno/Akito. Why? Because their mutually-dependent relationship is almost parasitic, but there are times I wonder how close and how far they actually are. Akito obviously favours Kureno above all the others, but why? Why does he keep Kureno so close to him? Why does Kureno stay so close to Akito? Remember, even though Akito has told us that Kureno is the Rooster, we've never actually seen Kureno change into Rooster form.
In many ways, he is the most mysterious of the Sohma's. Not Akito, not Shigure, but Kureno. *shivers* >_<
Also, I've been thinking about the Hatori/Kana arc. While what Akito did was definitely wrong for many obvious reasons, but it's also clear that what Akito did might have a measure of sanity amid the madness. Think about it. If Hatori and Kana had gotten married, what could they do? They'd never be able to hug. They'd never be able to have sex. They'd never be able to do any of the things that any other couple could do without a second thought.
It would be highly likely that eventually, their relationship would end and end rather terribly. While Akito made it quick and brutal, and left a lasting scar, it made them hate him rather than hate themselves, which might have been worse. I'm probably seeing too much into it, but realistically, if Kana couldn't handle Akito trying to destroy their relationship, then most likely, she wouldn't have been able to handle the eventual slap of reality when she finds out she can never sleep in her husband's arms.
Worth some thought.
So this lovely sketch was on the opening page of Volume 14.
Isn't it beautiful? The coloured picture below is the cover of v.14 - I could just eat it all up. I don't think this volume was particularly kind to Akito, but it was brutally straight forward. We see that Akito really is insane in a fashion, and that there is something he can hear that no one else can. Why? Because he seems to know things that he shouldn't know. Like how Rin and Haru were dating.
The voices. In his head. *twitch* The idea makes me all giddy.
Here's a scanslation of about ten pgs in V. 12, where the curse is 'discussed' between Tohru and Kazuma (Kyo's adoptive father). There's a couple of pictures of Akito that I adore here, since he's oh-so-frail and oh-so-pretty and oh-so-mad. He smiles after killing a bird. He looks out the window to the world he can't participate in. And he looks like he's dying as Kazuma explains that the Juunishi must listen to him.
Whatever it is, I love these few pages, since it reveals a side of Akito unknown to the reader. XD
This is the cover to Ch. 62 of V. 11.
So. What does that hand mean? Fellow Akito-lovers! Help me deduce it!
It's really easy to miss, so unless you're staring with sparkles in your eyes, most will miss that extra hand. The author is obviously giving those devoted to Akito, a small, but important clue. Several times, I get the feeling that though Akito is the Head of the Sohma Clan, there's someone pulling strings in the background. Why do I think that? Because in V. 11, Shigure at one point (I'll scanslate it soon) says 'Ren'. Those who have read cousin D's Long Denied will recognize the name, but in the manga, 'Ren' is apparently, male. But not necessarily.
If a female is especially strong or 'high', she'll be given a male name as a term of respect. Sexist, yes, but that's how it goes. So it could be female, since in another small section, the part of V. 12 scanslated above, there is a mystery person that comments on how 'Tohru should be pitied if she found out about the curse'. It's all very confusing. -_-
Now, Shigure has basically been acknowledged as a manipulator behind the scenes. Everything he does and says to people have double meanings. Is he close to Akito? Does he know the truth about the curse? Does he know how to release the family from the curse? We don't know, but in these particular two pages, scanslated, the sensei of Tohru and Kyo has figured out that Shigure is not everything that he seems to be. Shigure and his scary-eyed smile.
So he doesn't even treat the one he loves with 'adoration'. There's another part I have to scanslate that'll make this all the more understandable. >_< I'll link them all up eventually.
Dedicated to
flamika who also loves Akito with the same obsessive fervor. =P

Date: 2004-05-24 09:50 pm (UTC)That Kureno/Akito pic had me squee-ing for ten minutes straight. I was expecting a pic of Akito underneath the covers and Kureno sort of lying next to him. But he's actually under the covers with him! And wearing pajamas! And he has a hand over him. *melts*
Oh, and the second links brings up a Tripod error page. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. ^_^

Date: 2004-05-24 10:32 pm (UTC)The Kureno and Akito sketch was the highlight of v.14, but there was a lot more Akito than I anticipated, since I thought the author would try to reveal more of the secret without showing us too much of an sympathetic!akito side.
As for scanslation, I've basically decided to just scan every single page in all the volumes that either pertain to the curse, mention Akito, have Akito, have Shigure thinking (possibly) of his master plan, him mentioning his master plan, and etc. etc. And bits of Kagura, Ritsu and Momiji, because I love them so much. =P
The link that was an error, that was the one that had the pics of Akito I kept raving about. ^______________^

Date: 2004-05-24 11:06 pm (UTC)Once again the thought occurs to me that Akito is actually very selfless. He hates being sick all the time, and he could end his pain by killing himself at any moment. But he lives on in suffering so that his family can also survive.
*overflowing with Akito-lurve*

Date: 2004-05-25 01:16 am (UTC)(mind you, I love them all. Ayame. Shigure. Hana and her brother. Ritsu. Hiro and Kisa. Momiji, oh, dear Momiji... When I watched the Motoko episode and found myself liking Motoko, I understood that this is the clearest sign of the greatness of FB)

Date: 2004-05-27 05:11 am (UTC)Really, if the were to marry they couldn't even sleep in the same bed (or would that be futon?). What if she accidentally hugged him while sleeping? She could've killed poor Hatori like that. And would she stay loyal to a husband that she couldn't even hold, much less make love to?
Maybe I'm getting too deep into this considering how little I know, but it seems to me that what Akito did, while cruel, was for the best in the long run.
