Akito Fanfic Recs

These are the ones I'm currently following and/or have already read. I'd call them the ones that left the greatest impressions on me. But! That's not hard since Akito-centric fic is rare, and for it be well-written is even more rare.

Long Denied by cousin D
The first and - one of the best - pro-Akito fic I've read. The author just released Chapter 23, and it makes me all giddy. Not only that, she updates very regularly (two week intervals), so I'm always assured that I'll get a bi-monthly dose of Akito-goodness. One very good aspect about it is that it isn't just about Akito. Before you all look at me as if I'm crazy ^_^ the fic includes nearly everyone. And if you're fond of Petshop of Horrors like I am, then this will be real treat. Count D! Leon! Akito! Shigure! All very tasty.
Equally Cursed and Blessed by Caer
If you can get past the odd formatting for the first few chapters, it's a wonderful story. Yes, Akito is almost a peripheral character for a while, but the parts with him show Akito as both frightening and someone who you just want to desperately love. For all Kureno/Akito fans, the hints about the two of them hinge on ecstasy (for me at least). >_< You get the feeling that all Akito wants is someone to hug him, and it works even though that line of thought always verges on cheesiness. But this fic doesn't go there. *grin* And if you like Kyo/Yuki, have an extra treat on me.
Born to be Broken by NaPap
A sequel to an Ayame/Shigure story, this fic centers on Akito. I had read it with some hesitation, but after I got to the second part, I was hooked. The author loves Akito with a passion and it shows. Akito isn't exactly sane and nice (perish the thought), and his insanity really echoes here. We see his past and how powerless he is though he's the 'Head'. There were some parts that actually made me wince and it's been a while since I winced at something in a fic. Desensitivation and all that. But oh yes. Love Akito here. Mad and tragically terrifying.
Evermore by Zapenstop
Fantasy mixed in with Fruits Basket. I don't quite know how to describe this story other than, holy freak, it's well-plotted. I think this world is entirely made-up by the author (who does a lot of GW fanfic, if anyone's curious), so it makes it especially refreshing. Of course, if you're a big fantasty-reader, you might have seen the setting many times before, but hey! Akito in the woods! In castle! In cells! If there were only chains... with each chapter, he grows more central to the story. XD
Things Involving Akito by akitosohma
Um... this is a little weird, and though it's listed as humour, there were several bits that I couldn't help but mist up at. Melvin, Mervin, Pooky - voices in Akito's head that tells him to do the crazy things that no one else understands. I think you'll have to read it to understand what I mean.

I read this early on, and my first impression was OH MY GOD. His father, who had grown more bitter and distant with each passing day, looked viciously at Akito and spat his words out. "Because it's your fate to die for the Souma family, Akito-kun." That line especially just made me shiver. The dynamics between Akito and his parents made me literally sparkle, and how he acted versus what he thought really went in tandem with each other. The ending was slightly off, but only slightly. Very good read.

Unfortunately, this is unfinished at two chapters, and it doesn't look like the author will ever get back on track. However. What's there is tragic, dying (literally this time), bitter, frail Akito whom we all worship. You can't help but love someone who says, "My second and last funeral that I would go to will be my own.", right?
Fading Sakura Leaves by Crimson-Eyed-Angel99
This is unusual. Why? Because it focuses on Akito and Kyo. But it's working a slow path to some sort of relationship between the two. I'm glad there's none of the shoujo awkward moments punctuated by wild surprise kisses and blushing (which I have seen before in another Kyo/Akito fic). Akito balances on the edge of cheesy dialogue, but doesn't actually go over. It's a decent fic (though it could use a beta) that details how Akito feels about it all. Perhaps a literal orgy on how Akito feels about dying.
White Love by SpringSnow
First let me say off the bat: this is not the best Akito fic. It's overly-dramatic. It's cheesy. It needs a good beta. BUT. It has potential. Authors who can overlook the surface Akito in the first nine volumes of the manga get extra points in my book, and the Akito here is just clamouring for my heart. It's, um, mostly about Haru, Yuki and their love, but the Akito-part is still worth it.
Just a Little Something by Dr Megalomania
Ritsu/Akito. I can't say anything more. This is one of those stories where you either love it or hate it. And I love it. Cause it has 1) Akito and 2) Ritsu. >_<
