I know I've been poor sport about updating lately. I have no excuse. Except that I didn't feel like it. =)
Anyways, to get back in the groove, let me gush about the Farseer Trilogy and how absolutely loffly those books are!
I used to write a lot in the first person POV and then stopped, because it struck me that I just couldn't write that well in first person POV. But oh, Robin Hobb does a beautiful job and Fitz is so real and so flawed and so human and how could anyone not love such a boy? His entrance into Buckkeep was what drew me into the story because Hobb could have totally made a dramatic tragedy out of it but she concentrated on showing the castle, showing Burrich, showing the Boy for who he is. There wasn't much angsting over his mother. No, that would come a bit later. =) Or rather, a lot later.
Not even that, but all the characters were wonderful to read. Chivalry might not have been there, might never have had an actual physical presence, but you could feel him everywhere and it was Truly Good. For a person we never meet, he sure bleeds. And Lady Patience, I was so fond of her and I couldn't believe just how wonderful she was. Her! so eccentric! and then to have her turn into this fabulous character in the third book where she takes over Buckkeep and keeps it safe for the return of the king-in-waiting. (holy shit, that was a bad line)
I admit. I liked Burrich/Molly better than Molly/Fitz, even if they were very sweet. But say no more, because my heart is fully taken by Fitz and the Fool and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Fitz and the Fool were just... well, so perfect with one another!
Dude, read the Farseer books if only for Fitz and the Fool! ♥
The Fool! The Fool! Who couldn't love the Fool!
I mean, as pale as the new winter before darkening in subsequent books but in a really awesome way (flaking his whiteness away? COOL!!! I mean, gross... but I really mean cool) and how much he loves Fitz with all his heart. But it wasn't even his love for Fitz that made me love him in the first place. It was his absolute devotion to King Shrewd and even his knowledge that Fitz was the Catalyst didn't stopper his love and loyalty to the King. Even when the King had allowed Regal to cloud his eyes, he didn't abandon him and he suffered beatings and lots of humilation to remain by the King's side. I say, if someone loved me like that, I'd take them to Hokkaido and damn the rest of the world. ♥
Yes. I love the Fool. I just started the Tawny Man trilogy, that by all accounts, seems to focus on Fitz and the Fool to an even greater extent than the Farseer trilogy. The cool thing is that we already got a lot of it in the first series, and having even more of it can only mean a good thing. Oh, I can't wait for Fitz and the Fool to travel together. ALONE. BELOVED!
Does anyone else find the Fool breathtakingly sad yet so beautiful and so full of life? It's a wonderful contrast and now I really wish Robin Hobb wasn't quite so adamant about no fanfiction. Or rather, that I had discovered this series before she had made such a drastic statement. It would have been wonderful to indulge in Fitz/Fool fanfic. But, alas. I was lucky enough to get fanfic from a couple other sources, who shall remain nameless.
But anyways. Fool = ♥
Can anyone tell me anything about the Liveship trilogy? I'd like to know where in the timeline it takes place.

Date: 2006-05-19 08:17 am (UTC)The Liveship books take place between Farseer and Tawny Man, though, and you should really read them first. Because there is something fairly important that happens that will show up in the Tawny Man later. So yes. Read them in order.
And never doubt that the Fool is completely, utterly, and absolutely in love with Fitz. Because nothing will ever be clearer. ;)
