We're at the home stretch fellas, we're hitting the mark where we all sob hysterically for hours on end before we catch sight of that new series that'll have us raving for months like we've just ingested an ounce of marijauna. Nay, a pound! (Well, we'd be dead, but still!)

For me, I was oddly surprised by how hard this chapter hit.

Let's see. The curse has been broken. That's the first and foremost thing that really made me go whoa, hold your horses Takaya-sensei, where's the chicken? because it was like one, two, three, oh hahahahaha fooled yeah, okay, here we go again, one, two, three, oh hohohohoho, fooled you again, okay for real this time, and HAH! No countdown! and woot, they're free and they can feel that they're free and the wrenching of their bonds with their Goddess is both painful and liberating. They all knew, and they all reacted differently. Strangely enough, those closest to Akito were the ones who didn't cry while those who were furthest and the most removed had tears running down their faces. Or maybe not so strange. While Rin and Kisa suffered under Akito's wrath, they were still very much in awe of her and wanted her to love them as much as she possibly could?

Either way, their 'freedom' was just a teeny bit anti-climatical though they were all very in character, which I suppose is the most important. I think Shigure's essential non-response to the change was the most significant, along with Yuki's grief.

While Shigure had been the one with all the machinations, he seemed to be the unhappiest with the change. It was like a hm. Interesting. before moving on. I mean, it could very well mean that Shigure never had any intentions of leaving Akito, regardless of the state of the curse and now with everyone no longer bound to her, he'll feel free to stay with her to show that he stays out of love for her and not out of some sick bond they have between animal and goddess. Or at least, I seriously hope. Cause baby, my OTP is dying a quick death if we don't have some nookie in the last chapter. Just a kiss, c'mon, just a ittybitty kiss.

Yuki's reaction was both surprising and satisfying. I mean, it's been inferred so long in the series that there's something about Yuki (being the rat) that makes him particularly special in the Juunishi scheme of things. Akito treats him with a strange mixture of love that borders on obsession and the picture at the very end where they say sayonara while the 'God' (oh, and that god was beautiful, I actually felt something twinge in my stomach, it was so beautiful and happy and sheesh, I just felt my heart twinge again) holds up the rat above all spoke volumes about the place that Yuki (the rat) once had in Akito's life as 'God'.

As per usual, my heart kind of broke into ittybitty pieces because Akito was trying so hard, and it obviously hurt so bad, but she let them go, I honestly think she let them go, but not without a price. Cause while she did it with the memory of Tohru's words and smiles, the ending scenes of her doubled over in grief spoke volumes. Now the wondering is whether the Juunishi will now naturally gather to her to see if Akito is alright, to see if she needs them.

Here's the thing; remember how Akito and Ren had the bet? That the bonds were 'fake' and that the only reason the Juunishi were there were because of those fake bonds? The bet would be settled once and for all, if the Juunishi returned to her without any demand, without any order, without any reason other than that they wanted to. I think it would be a grand and beautiful ending if they all started weaving toward Akito and ended up coming to her one after another, perhaps proving to her that she never had to make that wager with her moter in the first place.

Which brings me to yet another point; what threads are going to be tied up and which ones aren't? I doubt Takaya-sensei is going to just leave Ren like that, but we only have one chapter left. Granted, it's probably a long-ass chapter, but who knows? What's going to happen between Shigure and Akito? Those are the only two who have an unfinished story; everyone else has their happy endings, or at least, endings. There's hope in everyone's future except the two of them. There was foreshadowing of sorts, since they were the only two who reacted to the breaking of the curse with anything other than happiness.

...

August is when the next chapter is. OMG. August. Two weeks. OMG. COME HERE TO MAMA, AUGUST FIFTH!

I thought Hana to Yume hadn't announced that Furuba would be ending yet. Maybe she'll go another couple of volumes to fully wrap up the little things that are left. ^^;
