Rose, always Rose

I can't get her out of my head. I swear, I've been rewatching the first two seasons somewhat obsessively and I'm just going straight to my favorite scenes with her. And I swear, I'm starting to get maudlin, just a bit, because every time I see her, I just fall a little Seriously, I am so much in love with this gal. I hope she has her own happy ending.

Also. Seriously, Doomsday? Some forget a certain critical scene in favor of the famous goodbye between her and the Doctor.

Rose was a lot of things in S2, some things make sense, others not so much. But one thing that I often notice is the lack of emphasis of why she fell from that lever. She wasn't weak, she didn't accidentally let go of the clamp. Rose fell into the alternate universe because she was saving the world. If she hadn't pulled that lever back up, the suction of the Void would have disappeared and not all the Cybermen and Daleks would have been pulled in.

A lot of criticism is leveled at Rose's character, but I remember this part and I feel like if saving the world twice is not enough... oh well. Can't win them all.

Also. For some reason, Doomsday makes me think of the Ninth Doctor, a lot. I'm not sure why.

I wish Christopher Eccleston had done just one more season. Then I wouldn't be faced with the uncomfortable fact that maybe David Tennant is leaving after the 2009 specials.

Maybe because a lot of S1 (and Nine) is dealing with the Time War - guilt, loss? And in Doomsday, that Rose band-aid for that was ripped off, and everything's sort of reset to when we first met Nine.

Ooh, good point. S3 was really heavy-handed on reminding us how easily the Doctor grew semi-depressed when Rose was mentioned, and I'd forgotten, that at one point, there was a time between the Eight Doctor and Ninth Doctor and there was no Rose.

Or they'll insist that Rose is just being a Mary Sue when she saves the world. It makes me grind my teeth. I've loved all the Doctor's recent companions, and it annoys me that one inspires so much animosity for no good reason.

It is a bit odd; I totally expected Martha-bashing every which way I turned, but having Rose in that role was a bit of a surprise to me. You know how it is? When one character replaces another, the older one is usually more liked? I've seen Martha-dislike, but I've yet to see a post that actually criticizes her every move. It's really odd.

OMG, ROSE IS SO NOT A MARY SUE. Otherwise, they'd get rid of that hideous makeup she wears sometimes. ;P

Plus, she doesn't have silver hair or 'amethyst' eyes. ;)

Oh, I'm sure that if Russell T. Davies and the Doctor had loved Martha as they did Rose, she'd have experienced the same frothing hatred. The problem, I think - the perceived problem, anyway - is that Rose is young, pretty, and gets the Doctor's affection in a way that Martha and Donna don't. Or have not yet.

Ooh, good point. I hadn't considered that...

Indeed, with the way the Doctor treated her at times, it would have been hard to dump on her more than she was already being dumped on. It'd be like kicking someone when they're down. Ha. I suppose she dodged that particular bullet; man, I'm thinking about what would have happened if it had been requited love and how many people who have been enraged by it happening. ;)
