Oh, EXCITEMENT! Since this was a two-parter, I decided to save the last twenty or so minutes for watching right after I finished dling the second part, The Poison Sky. Well worth it!
I've been waiting for this episode, mostly because, yay, Martha Jones comes back! It cuts up the interminable wait for Rose and hee, I love Martha, so it'll be awesome to see her again. And onwards! To the show!
- A school? Again?
- UNIT!
- I knew Donna would bully him into letting her drive eventually. I can only imagine how the convo went down.
- MARTHA!
- The Doctor, I love how tense and excited he seemed and Martha, oh Martha!
- SHE GOT ENGAGED TO TOM MILLIGAN!
- Ha, I knew if Donna and Martha ever met, they'd make fun of the Doctor together. Sarah Jane and Rose! I can't wait until all the companions are together and they start trading Doctor!stories. Oh. I do hope Nine gets a mention in Rose and Jack's stories.
- I knew she was with UNIT, but I was a bit startled by everything she was doing. I'm not very comfortable with the military, so personal biases coming into play here.
- Hee, the Doctor not realizing the expert is him. Interesting. Wouldn't he normally be, "and that's why you called me"?
- Arrogant!soldiers... typical.
- Smart!soldiers, alright.
- Oh, they're back to being arrogant.
- Martha and the Doctor bicker like and old couple sometimes. It's kinda cute. ;)
- Arrogant geniuses aside... that blue suit is making me laugh.
- *random* His hair is poufy again today!
- I like how Martha hasn't put him onto a pedestal. So glad she hasn't let her life pass her by.
- Martha makes a good point about families. And telling them where you are. Because there's nothing worse than for family to wait and wait and wait, and never know whether you're alive or dead.
- Dude, the Doctor is crochety today. I remember Nine and when he commanded that army unit without any hesitation in World War Three and Aliens in London.
- OMG. He's doing the same thing he did to Rose, trying to convince her to stay by describing all the fantastic things they could see. Ha, I bet Donna's just going home for a visit.
- AHAHAHAHAHA, she is! DUMBO! The beautiful goodbye, wasted!
- The more I watch S4, the more I think that the Doctor and Donna make a kickass team. LOVE DONNA SO MUCH.
- Yeah, Donna's mum? Not quite like Jackie.
- That young military guy? Ooh, hot.
- "Drives me around the bend" HA! I like him already, and the Doctor certainly appreciates that kind of humor.
- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Martha! Don't follow them!
- It's hard to be a genius... I suppose. I bet it's harder to be killed by a genius.
- Oh, Doctor. You have such witty witty lines.
- BAKED POTATO HEAD. I LIKE THIS UNIT GUY, ROSS. PLEASE DON'T LET HIM DIE.
- That little tennis shot reminds me of the satsuma from The Christmas Invasion. Hm.
- Ooh, title match. "The Last of the Time Lords" I love it when they do that. Kinda.
- Small explosions are the best.
- I'M SO GLAD I SAVED THE ENDING FOR THE SECOND PART. I WOULD HAVE DIED WAITING.
- Watching the opening credits, I suddenly thought of something. What's going to happen when we have Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, and Sarah Jane Smith? Are they going to name them all in the cast run-through??
- I knew Jackie's mum would have her shining moment. Eventually. That is rather smart of her.
- Oh. Damn. I just got teary-eyed when Wilf told her to go off. OH. I LOVE GRANDPARENTS.
- GOSH I LOVE YOU DONNA. That key, that was such a huge deal to both Rose and Martha and you're like, whatever.
- I LOVE YOU.
- The Doctor knows/suspects/is omniprescient. You know. Sometimes, just a bit, it's annoying how quickly he gets things. I wish there'd be a bit more mystery. Well. I suppose with Martha acting the way she is, it'd be hard not to notice for someone who knows her fairly intimately.
- HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
- ROSE. OMFG IT'S ROSE! GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW. All these mini-Rose moments in the COMPLETELY RANDOM PLACES. And she was yelling... Donna? Doctor? Whatever it is, I think it was an attempt at a warning.
- EEE. I love Donna. She and the Doctor are just so... damn. Damn. Skippy!
- They're all insanely intelligent, but Rattigan is the only who can't see beyond the science.
- It seems like every year, there's an 'end of days' episode.
- *random* Is it me, or does Donna have a lot of tearful scenes?
- Oh, Martha. Come back. *wibble*
- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ROSS! SERIOUSLY. No! I want him back! *weep* He would have been so awesome as... as... *cries*
- That's not a battle. That's a massacre. Honor and all that crap; doesn't count for a thing if they're not fighting equally.
- Oh. Wow. Brigadier!mention.
- 'Something precious' - Martha? I wish.
- Donna is so frightened and yet she's still willing to try, to do whatever it takes... now that. That is why I love Donna Noble. It's different from Rose's courage and it's different from Martha's courage, but it's courage nonetheless.
- Dude. I LOVE THE COMPANIONS.
- THE HAMMER!
- "You're brilliant, you are."
"Shut up."
- Nevermind. THAT is why I love Donna Noble.
- "ARE YOU MY MUMMY?" OMFG NINE!REFERENCE! AHHHHHHHHH!
- OMG THE VALIANT! S3 REFERENCE! Okay, what? The Doctor has bad associations with cats because of cats in wimple suits. But being stuck in a troll form for one year under his nemesis, doesn't bring any bad feelings?
- Does the Doctor always know? Takes a bit of fun out of it, it does. At least he doesn't know about Rose.
- Captain Jack. MY GOD. What is with all the references in this episode?
- Is it wrong I grinned like an idiot when the Doctor hugged Martha and said, "I've got you, I've got you."? Sometimes I think the Doctor treats Martha with a special bit of care because her love for him was never requited.
- Or that could be just me, being starry-eyed. Oh, I did Martha Jones.
- Ha, she's trying to tell him everything as soon as she woke up. Got her priorities straight, she does.
- Hee, the Doctor's coat on Martha!
- =( Did I mention I have a weak spot for clones too? Stories with clones often make me cry, especially when they end up like this.
- DONNA AND MARTHA! Oh, you guys are so wonderful together! Who NEEDS THE DOCTOR WHEN YOU'VE GOT THEM!
- Doctor go crazy. Doctor go smash.
- ... the Doctor is crossing his fingers. HEE.
- WHOA WTF? A kiss? UNIT?
- I've got to give them a choice. Hm.
- OMG.
- Luke.
- 0_0
- Oh. Oh my. ;_;
- And Donna hits him. And Martha smiles at him. And seriously; the COMPANIONS ARE JUST TOO COOL TO BE OF THIS PLANET.
- =( WILF. He can't go with them, not ever, and it breaks my heart to know how much he wants but to know he just can't.
- I love the look on the Doctor's face when Martha said she was better for having been away. To have verbal acknowledgment of that is probably a huge deal for him, especially since he keeps thinking that he somehow 'ruined her'.
- HA. I knew the TARDIS would do that!
- "The Doctor's Daughter" looks rather good. And it also looks like the episode that'll show us that clip that was in the trailer of S4. You know, the one where he was staring in horror, with tears in his eyes?
- HA! Billie Piper was in the credits for this ep!
That was a pretty awesome two-parter. So awesome, in fact, that I'm dancing a jig. ON MY HANDS. Lots that I liked, very little I didn't. Am excited about next week's episode, who isn't? Am always going to be waiting for the last three episodes of the season, but that's to be expected.
So!
SO!
I loved this two-parter. A few niggles here and there, but I think any fan would find niggles here and there. ;) Overall, I enjoyed watching the series and was riveted by both dialogue and action. NICE.
A lot has been said already, so just a few personal notes!
Donna
What can be said that hasn't be said before? She was brilliant! Everything about her was just absolutely brilliant and spot-on in this two-parter. She totally doesn't let the Doctor walk over her and I was giggling every single time the Doctor did something that was supposed to mean a great deal more... Donna just brushed it off. First key? Ha, Donna gave him a look and basically told him, so what? The Doctor telling Donna "you're brilliant, you are" and her saying, "shut up"? And of course... HIM TELLING HER HOW BRILLIANT SHE WAS AND HER PATIENTLY WAITING FOR HIM TO FINISH AND REALIZE WHAT WAS GOING ON? HA!
I'd loved Donna in The Runaway Bride, but I love this Donna even more. She's just so, so, so, so... SO DAMN COOL. To Donna, the Doctor's a nice bloke, a good friend, someone she would never want to see hurt or die, but she's also not going to take any of his nonsense and that includes hitting him when he took himself off on that suicidal mission of his.
DONNA. I 2.99 YOU!
Martha
Woot! I'm glad the writers utilized her strong points! I absolutely adore that she's moved on. (proving that you can move on from the Doctor) and EEEEK! She's engaged to Tom Milligan! That, that there was the sound of my brain going into hyper-overdrive. Oh, I hope there's a ton of Martha/Tom fics to come, because I'm curious how the two of them might have ended up together.
I'd been worried about the Doctor and Martha feeling lots of awkward around each other, but it really worked out. The two of them care very deeply for one another, but it isn't what it used to be and you know what? It works for the two of them. It really works!
I went awwwwww when she was wearing his long trenchcoat at the end; she looks adorable in that coat and the joking banter she and Martha had over it? CLASSIC. Plus. To be a bit shallow, her hair at the end of the episode looks AWESOME. And yay, we get her back for the next episode too!
Sontarans and Plot
They were a cool enemy, but otherwise. Eh. Nothing particularly noteworthy about them for me.
Though yeah. They look like baked potatoes.
Also. OH SCIENCE OF DOCTOR WHO. I 2.99 YOU TOO!
The Noble Family
Seriously, who did not think Sylvia was just a bit awesome when she took that big old axe from her house and smashed the front windshield open? I was thinking the same thing when Donna and the Doctor were struggling (quite uselessly) with the car and she just takes an axe and. smashes. the. window. free.
I like Donna's family quite a bit, especially Wilf. When everything looks bleak and dark, Wilf was comforting Sylvia, his daughter, and I swear, tears came to my eyes, I was so choked up. LOVE GRANDPARENTS.
To a certain extent, I like them more than the Jones, but that's because I felt that the Jones were caricturised to a certain degree.
Luke
I figured he'd sacrifice himself midway through, but not quite so spectacularly. I wish he'd realized sooner, but better late than never, eh?
Rose
Okay. I JUMPED out of my seat when I saw that flash of Rose across the TARDIS screen screaming, Doctor or Donna. I got the same visceral shock that I'd gotten when she appeared in Partners in Crime. Seriously, I was not expecting that at all and I danced a jig around my apartment as I alternately screamed and hypventilated. ;)
With all the clues presented to us thus far, I'm starting to get the sense that Rose is trying to communicate something. Or other. And that it might NOT have something to do, precisely, with the Doctor. The few images of S4 we've seen floating around online have included a photo of Rose with a gun. I'm not sure what that signifies, but I think it does, somewhat. After all, these two episodes made several references to the Doctor's complete dislike of guns; how is going to feel when Rose is carrying one? But that's the thing, right? We don't know what the context is.
There's something of a Bad Wolf here, and I'm starting to get antsy about the last three episodes. Mostly because, I think I'm building the Rose/Doctor reunion way too in my head and if it keeps going on like this, I'm going to end up with this particularly romantic, rocky version that's never going to happen.
We'll see though.
Otherwise.
OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! ROSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ugh, done.
