This is going to sound smarmy and fucked up and just completely so out of my usual cynical bitching that those of you who know me in RL constantly hears.
After the first FOUR hours only, I've had more fun than in the last few weeks of puttering around the U campus, randomly picking places to have lunch. Yes, I have a very boring life.
So.
Who have I met?
*MASSIVE CORONARY GRIN*
Listing - Lexin, Sushi, Ellen Fremedon, Mariner. I spent the evening with them and they are as lubey in the tubey as anyone could dream. I am in awe and feeling more at place than I have ever had, in any HP situation. Slash was our calling card and slash was what we discussed and joked about. *sniffles* For me, to have someone to actually speak about slash, fanfiction writing that's done on a face-to-face medium rather than the internet (as much as I love the net and LJ) was unbelievably satisfying. I enjoyed it so much, and am very much thrilled for two more days. I'll be missing the ending of Nimbus, because we're leaving Sunday morning, but since I'll be catching all the panels and discussions, I'm too excited to care.
^_^ I probably sound really kiddie-like, but I'm really happy to be here.
Others who I know are here, and who I've caught glimpses of.
Titti, who I saw on the ELEVATOR after looking for her. The nametags have forced me to stare at everyone's chests and below in order to see their nametags. Alright, I hear Nancy, Ailei, and Khirsah are also there, and I do so want to see them too. I also, unintentionally, bumped into Cassandra Claire, which was a somewhat of a surreal experience, especially since I just found out that Cedar is doing the panel concerning Draco Malfoy with Claire. Cedar's arguing that Draco Malfoy can't be redeemed while Claire says he can. I'm actually looking forward to it. And just to be contrary, because this is a relatively large pro-Draco (specifically, Claire's infamous Draco) gathering, I'll be supporting Cedar. Also because I'm holding out for the hope that Draco will go 'evil' but the other Slytherins won't. Cross fingers.
EEE! The panel concerning slash is tomorrow and I'm eagerly awaiting!
I'm somewhat looking forward to meeting VanityFair AKA Aja, because I do like her Draco/Harry story. I don't know if Antenora is there or not, but I would give a limb to see her, because she was one of the only authors I know who showed the Slytherin's in all their glory. WAHAHAHAHA.
And nicely enough, my writer's block is melting away. Luna/Pansy, Percy/Bill, Percy/Snape, Percy/Neville, Percy/Sirius. Hee hee hee.
Alright. Enough with the people. Onto the events. There wasn't a lot that actually happened, since registration wasn't until five and the thing started around six. But between 6 - 9 it was a meet and greet where we found people we knew, saw lots of dressed up people (which was *really* awesome. Some of these costumes cannot literally be called costumes. They *are* the uniforms of Hogwarts). I saw a Snape and glomped her, but she was very nice about it. ^_^
After some pizza and drinks (alcohol was passing relatively freely, and I'm somewhat sure that the hotel was't particularly strict with making sure those who were underage were kept away from alcohol, but I don't think people really cared. It was too much fun.) there was wandering around the various rooms. The art room was particularly nice, and I have my eyes set on a collection of hand-painted bookmarks featuring Japanese warriors and scenes. There's also a fantastic HP quilt that starts at 150 as the minimum bid. I'm somewhat interested, but I don't know if I really should shell out two hundred, two hundred and fifty bucks for it.
However, the glory of the night belonged to the Exhibition Room. Whoa. HP, HP, HP. There was this girl who handmade quidditch and house robes specifically for you and your size. She was also taking orders for knitted House scarves, sweaters, school outfits, anything. It was pretty amazing. I've filled in an order for the Slytherin Quidditch robes, since she also sells the Quidditch pads and white pants. Hee hee hee.
Several places with lovely jewelry for sale. I got a number of good deals, so I'm very pleased. I also bought an Angel Sanctuary CD (!) and some HP patches to sew onto robes and such. There are fucking awesome robe clasps that I'm going to get. They are AWESOME. No other words for it.
Will take many pictures tomorrow. Promise. Only got two today, but was too excited. ^_^
The Marauder's panel was HILARIOUS. Four people were speaking for (one of them Gwendolyn Grace) the Marauders, and there was some pretty interesting debates and points brought up. Is Peter Pettigrew really a whimpering evil rat? What really happened that night of the infamous Prank that most of us Snape-fans believe nudged Snape strongly onto the hellish road of Death Eathers? Why did James mock him one day and then save him another? How was Remus Lupin *really* able to forgive Sirius for such a unforgivable breach of trust? Why did Sirius not tell the truth about the switch of Secret Keepers? Who is James Potter? And of course, is Sirius REALLY dead? *grin* Many prefer to believe him not to be.
It was a great panel, but of course, the Snape fans were in the minority for that particular vein of discussion. Don't care too much though, because there were enough of us to grin with wicked grins. Yeah, baby, slash. And apparently, dirty minds abound at Nimbus. Gwendolyn Grace was speaking and she used the word, "seminal".
*beat*
Heh. Heh.
Yes. ^______^
The joint Remus/Sirius gift was also brought up amid hundreds of cheers.
Ahhh.
So. That's it for today! I'll give a detailed thing of Saturday's going ons!
Above is the It of what I experienced at Nimbus. I'm missing the Switchblade Kittens concert because I wanted to type this out before I collapse into bed. Getting two hours of sleep plus a small nap is just not working for me. I need to be at my fullest strength tomorrow. I don't know how those who can get two hours in 48 can do it. *collapses*
*snores*
EDITED - This is basically a small attempt to give an idea of what the Con was like, because there are several people I wish dreadfully hard were here.

Date: 2003-07-17 10:15 pm (UTC)It is kind of a bitch to find people around here though. (Name tags SO are not helpful. We need big neon signs or something, I swear.) I'll be wearing a purplish Black Cats t-shirt tomorrow & bright red platform shoes, if you want to track me down. :)

Who loves the fact that her swanky, uber-expensive, soul-sucking Swan room as internet access.

WHY WHY WHY AM I NOT THERE!
*is mad jealous of Demeter*
So are you meeting lots of other crazy HP slash fans? What kind of speakers are there and what are the topics? What else are they selling in the exhibition room? Are you taking pics of fans in costume? I WANT TO SEE PICTURES!
Hehe the marauder's panal sounds like a lot of fun...dood there are so many questions I want answered. *wishes she was there*
Though I know the answer to one:
"And of course, is Sirius REALLY dead? *grin* Many prefer to believe him not to be."
*growl* THAT'S CAUSE HE'S NOT! ;P
*pant pant* Anyway I hope you are having a good time! (I can tell from your entry you are) Also, if you get a chance take advantage of the Disney grounds. From the Swan and Dolphin you can walk to Epcot, The Yatch and Beach club resort, and my personal favorite- The Boardwalk resort. It really is quite lovely there in the evening.
