I'm not what most people call an activist, since I usually am content to complain and whine and then complain more with my friends about how this country is going to the dump and how there should be something done about it... without actually getting up and doing anything about it. Well, this time I did do something about it.
The flyers are doing extremely well. I was actually very lucky today. There was a person talking about God (his version at least) and how He (notice, the gender?) is so against homosexual marriage (among many other things). He was ranting and speaking and sputtering, and many people were very against him. I usually pass these people by and ignore them and any hubbub surrounding the issue. But today, I stopped (after actually going into the library, with all intents to ignore) and something told me this is a great place and time to bring out the flyers. I handed them around and there was a warm reception. There were a few uninterested, but most accepted the flier with interest.
To be honest, this is the first time I've taken such an active stance. I was nervous and my heart was beating like a frightened kitten and my face felt red and I stuttered on several occasions. But... to be honest, now considering it, it felt right. I definitely don't belong on the podium and speaking about these issues, because I know I don't know nearly half-enough, but being and doing something small like this actually was more suitable for me. If only half of the fifty are affected by the flyer, then it was worth all the painful shyness.
I've gotten some chill-eyed looks, but that's to be expected. His inclusion that all homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgenders cannot be considered 'proper families' made it personal. He makes them a homogenous group, with no feeling of the individuals within. It is a great disservice to the US to have him as our representation to the world.

Date: 2003-10-16 02:57 pm (UTC)OMG you are the first HP fan I have ever met (and I have met A LOT) to dislike Remus/Sirius. Even some of my friends who cant stand slash recognize them as a pair.
I am shocked and impressed.
BTW can I still see you doujinshi?

Date: 2003-10-16 10:22 pm (UTC)Although, I will admit to liking Remus/Snape, as well. At least for now. But once she grows up, I do think that Hermione is really Snape's One True Love. (Sad, but true) ::grin::
Oh - and not to sound stupid, but what's a doujinshi? I meant to ask you at Nimbus, because you talked about it then, but I never quite managed to ask. :-)
Wendy, the clueless. ::grin::

Date: 2003-10-17 12:13 am (UTC)Augh! Remus/Sirius SERIOUSLY (no pun intended) annoy me. Maybe because I'm one of the few die-hard Remus/Snape fans out there. *beatific smile* They're so lovely together. It doesn't help that I've loathed Sirius ever since finding out about his involvement with the Shrieking Shack incident. XD

Date: 2003-10-24 07:31 pm (UTC)Sorry to be so long in answering this . . . Hmnh . . . tips for RP? Well, let me just give you some thoughts about the way I see this ship . . . will this work? (Hi, Demeter, btw ::grin::). I like to ship them after she leaves Hogwarts (of course), and I see her going into some field that requires a lot of research - she's good at this, after all. I think that she and Severus already have a lot of common ground for a relationship - I think that even in canon they have respect for one another, particularly for one anothers' intelligence and dedication to their field. I don't know how I'd see them getting together (there's plenty of fanfics that have given that more thought that I have), but once they are together I can really see them working side by side in the lab - working on a cure for Lupin's lycanthropy, maybe? Or some potion to thwart Voldemort. Something like that. And I really believe that Hermione has the personality to stand up to Snape when he's being snarky, and not put up with his crap - and he'd love and respect her even more for it.
Okay - there are a few thoughts. I don't know if this is helpful at all. If you have specific questions, let me know . . . that might be a better way to get the tips you want. :-)
