It's here! It's here! It's the season 4 finale of Doctor Who!
Noticed this last week, but the names flashing by during the opening is still hilarious. So fast!
HA. OMG. After all that fuss about regenerating? And then NOTHING. The looks on Donna, Jack, and Rose's faces!
- OMG! MICKEY! JACKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I am so happy.
- Cool, Torchwood? A safeguard Jack left for them, perhaps?
- The hand thing kinda makes sense, kinda doesn't, but I can hardly care.
- OMG. ROSE. DOCTOR. HUG. *cries*
- Donna and Jack! *weeps* They're as happy as I am! And DONNA! I love you so much, for saying that to Jack! It's the first time I saw someone flirt FIRST with Jack before he even had the chance to make his own move!
- Wow. Tosh. She saved them. She saved them with one of her creations. Oh, Tosh
- I have... a bad feeling about Martha. Oh, I hope it's not true.
- Martha's mom is like any mom; above all, she wants her child safe. Kind of like Jackie.
- Random: Mickey's eyes are so much darker. I wonder if that's deliberate.
- Um... is the Doctor flirting? I don't know?
- He's so happy she got 'cannoned' back.
- Donna's double heartbeat again. Oh, what does it mean? Please don't let it be Donna... oh.
- “You were brilliant.” Oh dear. I just suddenly thought of Nine again. DAMMIT. And the music, isn't that the same piece that played when Nine got Rose out of Satellite Five?
- Oh, the poor TARDIS. They're really doing a number on it before they pass it on, aren't they?
- OMG. The RING. There it is. Why didn't I notice that before?
- Um. Okay. So there are two Doctors now. The rumours were TRUE. But, how so? And I do love that even in that moment, there's a moment of levity for Donna.
Random: I'm pretty much WTF right now. So much so that the hand-holding is just hitting me now. ROSE. The DOCTOR. Holding hands again. She loves the TARDIS too, and she's trying to be there for him.
- HOLY SHIT. They are going to deal with Rose and Jack's intangled lives. The fact that Rose is the reason why Jack is immortal. And Jack has a plan, the Doctor knows it, so he's pulling her away. OMG.
- The Jack and Rose conversation is going to be fabulous.
- ... and it's just the Doctor and Rose now.
- O. Okay? The Doctor... kinda... grew... from... Donna? Ha. And the Partners in Crime music is playing. And he sounds like her. Forgive me. This is amusing for me.
- Part Time Lord, part human. This is getting more interesting by the second. Seriously, is RTD on total crack or what?
- Converging timelines. Hm. Drawing to an end. Hm. Meetings that were meant. Oh dear. Destiny? I'm not so fond of destiny, but... we'll see.
- I'm not even surprised that Martha speaks German. =) Smart girl! So what the hell is this key? I have no idea what the German elderly lady was saying.
- Doctor, always mouthing off. Love it.
- Oh. Rose. You've been jumping from world to world this whole time? How long?
- Okay. So Rose is foretold to be there. Donna's 'dead', but not really. So technically there's another person to die. I'm curious to why they don't mention the fact that Rose was the Bad Wolf, the reason why the first Dalek fleet we met in New Who died. Is Bad Wolf going to come into play or not?
- And what is the Reality Bomb?
- Jackie. Oh, I've really missed her. *sad*
- Interesting. One Doctor, blue. One Doctor, brown. One Doctor, shouting. One Doctor, analysing.
- Ah. That recharge mentioned offhand in the first few minutes actually plays a hand in saving Jackie.
- WHOA. Now that is an ambitious villain.
- Daleks hate all other lifeforms. Oh. They mentioned this in S1, in the episode Dalek. This would be their goal. THIS WOULD BE THEIR ULTIMATE GOAL.
- AHHHHHHHH! MICKEY AND JACK REUNION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
- Okay. Ha. This is interesting; we actually have three different possibilities going on. A warpstar, the key that Martha had, and whatever the New New New Doctor is cooking up.
- Martha, you rock! I mean. Wait. Well, the idea sucks, but Martha, she chose the second path rather than following the order immediately. She TRIED A DOCTOR BLUFF.
- ROSE LIKES MARTHA!
- MARTHA SEES ROSE!
- This is way better than I ever imagined!
- So the Doctor's got a choice now. And EEE, Davros recognizing Sarah Jane! Oh, that is just classic, and to have Sarah Jane meet him and this is just twenty-second memory for Classic Who fans.
- Oh. OH. Oh my god! How many have died in your name? That's like... that's like... that's almost like RTD showing how the previous portrayal of the Doctor as semi-God like is wrong.
- jfa4ewo;ijhfewihjafoijfew;jkl;jewalf THIS IS WHY I LOVE RTD.
- David Tennant, you are so good!
- JABE!!!!! S1! The Controller! Lynda with a 'y'! Torchwood! Boe! Astrid! River! The Hostess! And... oh. The Doctor.
- Always running. The Doctor's soul.
- Transmat beam. AGAIN WITH THAT.
- HA. Once you say 'nothing' can stop 'something'. Something will stop it. It's like a law. Obviously, it shall be Donna and the New New New Doctor.
- The gun keeps getting dropped. It shouldn't be funny, but I find it insanely funny.
- Random: I know this is just paranoid of me, but why keep focusing on Rose?
- 0_0 That actually kind of makes a weird sort of sense. That some would transfer into Donna too. But. WHAT?
- “Best temp in Chiswick. 100 words per minute!”
- Ahhh. Um. I don't know. This is almost a little weird! But... Jack's comment! THREE DOCTORS! Oh, Jack. You're always thinking about something.
- 0_0 Holy! The Dalek manipulated it all to DESTROY the Daleks. That. That. It saw all of time and space, it saw everything it did, and even if Daleks have been genetically groomed to not have emotions... they're still alive!
- “One will still die.” GULP.
- Random: Rose is between the two Doctors!
- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! They did it! They did it! They did what so many fans have talked about! Ahahahahahaha! The Unquiet Dead! Gwyneth! Gwen! AND THE DOCTOR AND ROSE ARE HAVING ONE OF THEIR DORKY JOY MOMENTS!
- Annnnnnnnnnnnd, we now have the very full cast. Everyone. Absolutely everyone, even the tin dog.
- When RTD goes out, he GOES OUT.
- Jackie and the Doctor moment! ... shut up Doctor! Jackie is very competent!
- Oh dammit. I started crying. All the companions helping out. This is just... just... too wholesome for me! I'm going to cry now.
- HAHAHA, the hugging! Everyone hugged everyone! And Donna shoved Sarah Jane out of the way to hug Jack. Oh. Oh, the stupid tears again!
- ... DAMMIT. I wanted a big Companion group thing, but no... I suppose it's more realistic that they go off. They all have their duties and loves. Sarah Jane cares for Luke more than anyone else in the world, now. Jack and Martha have a job (I wanted a proper Jack and Rose thing! A proper Rose and Martha thing!) to do. And... what the hell? Mickey? WHAT ABOUT JAKE? WHAT THE HELL?
- 0_0
- Bad Wolf Bay.
- OH NO.
- Random: Tony? Really, Jackie?
- 0_0
- Oh.
- Nine?
- 0_0
- Nine. Nine when he and Rose first met. OH. OH. OMG. Christopher Eccleston. “Birthed in genocide, blood and war.” Rose made him better, the Doctor remembers that. And he needs Rose. This. This is everything that I ever thought about the Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose. Nine needed Rose more than Ten did. It doesn't mean Ten loved her less. But... oh. Oh my.
- Hm. Okay.
- RTD wanted Rose to have closure before he gave the show to Moffat. I know that. But. OH. I don't know. I don't know if I feel entirely comfortable with this. I don't know, I really don't. But. This is Donna's show. I'll think about the Rose/Doctor thing later.
- Random: Kiss. There's a kiss. There's finally a kiss. I think fanfic could make this better.
- Ah. I knew it. A human mind is not built to hold the mind of a Time Lord.
- Why. Why did he have to take all her memories? Why?
- “That version of her is dead.”
- WHAT?
- She can NEVER REMEMBER? FUCK YOU!
- Oh. I HATE THIS ENDING. Everything Donna went through, everything she did. The ways she changed! Gone!
- This is... this is... dude. This is like, despair. This is not what you'd call a happy ending. Not in any stretch of the thought. 0_0
- Oh my god. This is not a happy ending. The universe is saved again. The planet is saved again. Everyone goes back to their lives. Donna doesn't die. Rose doesn't die. Martha doesn't die. Jack doesn't die. Sarah Jane, Mickey, Jackie... none of them die. But this is not a happy ending.
- RTD. Is... this your idea of an exit? You just did something no one expected; you gave the audience an unhappy ending.
- Random: He took of his suit jacket.
- Wow. RTD. There was no happiness in this episode. I mean, there was. But... oh my god. Is this your final farewell? That everyone is happy EXCEPT the Doctor?
- This... was a very bleak, realistic episode. It wasn't happy fairytales. But then, how often do we really get happy endings?
-
I...
I... don't know what to say.
This is not what I expected from the finale. I don't know. This... jeez. I don't know. Give me a couple days to think.
But. I think I liked it.

Date: 2008-07-06 04:00 pm (UTC)i didn't like the whole finale. it had its squee moments (it's gotten me interested in the sarah jane adventures, for one thing), but overall it was just. really. bad. hated what happened to rose and what happened to donna. ESPECIALLY hated what happened to donna.
and davros - he used to be so scary and dignified in the tom baker eps. the actor/voice brought as much awesome as he could, but watching him like this hurt.

Date: 2008-07-08 02:44 am (UTC)And in a way, I'd rather Rose leave the show so I can imagine her having a fantastic life in her parallel world than have her stuck in some sort of limbo companion existence.
As for Donna...
Dude. That was one of the most depressing endings to a season finale I've ever seen. I still don't know what to say about it. I understand why he did it; I definitely did not want Donna to die. To die means she'll never have a chance to guest star again, and they had said Rose's return was 'impossible'. So it's possible that someday in the future, Donna and the Doctor will meet up again.
But yeah, one of the criticisms I've been hearing is that he took her entire choice away and that's one of the main things bothering me. I know it was killing her, but I felt that he could have taken a few moments to explain what was going on and given her a chance to say goodbye to him. To strip everything from her like that, it was undeniably cruel for all that he didn't mean it in that way.
I kind of feel like that RTD was basically wiping the slate clean; he removed Rose and Donna, while Martha and Jack are heading to Torchwood. For all we know, RTD and Moffat decided that this would make the transition to Series 5 in 2010 much easier if we didn't have any former companion baggage left. =(

Date: 2008-07-09 07:10 am (UTC)i think it's very likely that donna will make an appearance in the next season. what RTD did seems like less a slate-wiping as a plant, like she's probably become a sort of... back-up doctor or something. like when the tenth doctor dies (while traveling with river song perhaps? oh dare we hope the other writers of DW won't ignore stephen moffatt this time), doctordonna gets unsealed and donna's memories are restored and ta-da! eleventh doctor ^^; OR SOMETHING. just, i really, really wish the whole finale didn't seem so rushed, yanno?
my question is really - rose experienced a similar "hybridization" as it were when she meshed with the tardis, and she emerged from the experience with her memories intact and relatively unscathed... why couldn't donna do it? what possible explanation in heck would explain why her mind HAD to be wiped just to extricate the half-doctor bits?
...you know what i never noticed the ring XD;; now that you've pointed it out, though, i can't discount the fact that it might be significant.

Date: 2008-07-07 01:54 am (UTC)The Rose/Doctor!humanV2.0 thing I actually liked and thought was pretty cool.
Mickey stay in this world!!!! I wonder if he is going to go work for Jack? That would rock! *hearts Mickey and Captain Cheesecake*

Date: 2008-07-08 02:45 am (UTC)I'm so weirded out by Mickey staying; how about all the things he did in the parallel world? How about JAKE?
no subject
Date: 2008-07-09 02:30 am (UTC)What makes Mickey staying so great is all the stuff he did in the parallel world. He was just starting to be kick ass when the Doctor and Rose first left him behind in Pete's world, so think of how much more he'll have changed since then. All that added depth to his character after fighting a full on war against the Cybermen with Jake at his side, and then spending who knows how long tracking the time lines and helping Rose bounce between realities trying to put the universe right again. He'll be such a darker more mature Mickey...
As for Jake- I'm not sure what to make of that but I'm sure I could come up with some heartbreaking fanfic just because I'm sure whatever happened was heartbreaking!

Date: 2008-07-09 04:09 am (UTC)Mickey staying is awesome, but the mechanics of it is what's weirding me out; for one thing, how about all the friends he made in Pete's World? How about his job there? And yeah, I keep thinking of Jake. He lost his friend twice now...
