They're not just mean... if they were just mean, I could deal with that. It's the fact that they're mean arrogant arseholes who don't give a flip for anyone beyond their little special circle. They're derisive about anyone who doesn't match up to their standards, they act like the whole world is their joke box, and they're seem to completely lack any ability to feel remorse for their actions. It's been bugging me since book 4, but I think it was the Montague thing in Book5 that really raised my hackles.
Do you see the twins playing any special role in Book 7? It seems to me that they have a lot to learn, but they also may have a lot to contribute, and I don't mean jokes or a light-hearted attitude. What bothers me most about them is their treatment of Ron. I know brothers are supposed to quarrel, etc. but they are really ugly to him and, though I don't dislike them as a pair, I wish they were nicer.
May I ask you one more question? What do you think about Charlie? The fact that he was only a passing note in Book 6 makes me wonder if we'll be seeing more of him in Book 7. He'll have to, at least, show up at Bill and Fleur's wedding. I wonder what exactly he's been up to...
Montague in Book5 was my breaking point in regards to the twins and Book6 just exaceberated it. -_-;; I think they're bullies and they seem to feel little remorse for most of their actions, even the ones that cause serious harm.
In a way, I used to LOVE them. I thought they were so funny and I thought their antics were always worth a laugh. It was later on that I realized I just laughed less and less in regards to them; most of their pranks are without malicious intent, I'll grant them that, but they rarely think about the consequences and they don't tend to feel much remorse, even when a 'prank' goes horribly wrong.
What's wrong with the twins? :( Personally, I was appalled at how whiny Harry was in the sixth book. He is the only person that I couldn't stomach. lol.
Yes, I really think they're bullies. That business in one of the books (I don't have them with me) about changing people into canaries using the "Canary Creams"? Not funny.
The "Ton Tongue Toffee"? Very seriously not funny - they use their magic against Dudley, knowing that Dudley can't fight back. OK, he's foul, but does he deserve that particular kind of torture?
Repeatedly projectile vomiting in a public place? Not even remotely funny and probably a hazard to health.
Testing those Skiving Snackboxes on first years? Very seriously dangerous and not at all amusing.
No, I think they're a pair of very nasty pieces of work.
HAHAHAHAHA! XD Well I tend to like the characters that are manipulative and good at entertaining themselves through their own talents. I understand how their selfishness can be construed as nasty and mean-spirited, and truth be told -- I probably wouldn't find myself enjoying the company of this kind of person. I remember finding them amusing, but I really despise the characters that rely almost entirely on others for a source of moral support and never learn how to fend for themselves. *coughs* Harry *coughs* He was so wimpy and negative in the last book that I was wondering how 6 years at Hogwarts did him any good. -_-
I do. I DO. One thing is the way it's portrayed in the books. Malfoy&co are bullies and they're shown that way, but F&G are bullies and they're praised and loved and laughed with and I'm bothered immensely by it. B(
Oh, Harry made me roll my eyes but one thing about Harry is that he doesn't play pranks on people for the heck of it or for profit. He tries to be nice to most (excepting the Slytherins, but I think that can be expected) and I don't think he'd push someone into a closet without any thought of what might happen afterward. And I doubt he'd act so remorseless if said person got hurt. F&G are funny at times, but I wish people would admit that they're also bullies. Nasty ones at that, because they honestly don't think what they're doing is wrong. And in a way, that's creepier than Malfoy&co's out and out bullying.
Yes -- it's amusing how readers can be manipulated to like a bully when they are depicted in a positive light. But, I've never been a fan of the dramatic underdogs like Kyou or Harry. I think it's because everyone else likes them though. ~_^ I haven't read the book in awhile, but the part where he is with Dumby in that cave and they are walking along the edge, getting ready to take the boat out, that was where I finally broke down and said: "I really dislike his development." He's become negative and dark. It's to be expected, but he isn't much stronger of heart than he was in the beginning (especially with that kind of attitude). It just irritates me. I hope he is redeemed in my eyes in the last book. =/
Hmm that is interesting. I've never really thought of them as "bullies" but I guess they are. They never treated Ron very nicely, and he suffered for it, and I didn't really like how they treated their family in the store either. I mean, come on, they're poor, why can't they get some free stuff? But Harry does? Meh I don't know.
The way they treated Percy is pretty appalling too, though I guess Percy kind of got what he shelled out... but even before Book5, they'd pretty much treated him like shit. B( It partly stems from my soft spot for Percy (HA! Bill? Charlie, the oldest? HA! They were the fun and wickedly cool uncles who came home on occasion; Percy was the one who was taking care of them) and that does take over sometime, but, you know...
Well, I can see why they give free stuff to Harry - remember, he owns part of the business. They couldn't have started it without his initial investment of his Triwizard winnings.
I also dislike them, and the way JKR obviously loves them ("Oh but their pranks don't MEAN to cause harm! And if they do, it's only to bad guys like Quirrell, Filch and Umbridge!" etc. etc.) but more than even that do I hate the way Molly Weasley softens towards them once she sees that they're earning the moolah. Dammit, what they do is STILL wrong even if it's making them rich, Molly! Do you have to be so blatantly mercenary?
I can understand Molly's softening since it does make life for the family easier and after so much worry over their future, I guess she thinks it's for the best? But I really hate how she praised Percy to the skies and everything he did was almost calculated to do right by her eyes... it makes me feel soft and sad for Percy even if he is an arse and git.
Their pranks have bothered me since book4, but it was Montague in book5 that really made the shit hit the fan for me because I was frankly appalled that they didn't seem to feel any remorse over his condition.
